Terms of Service

The terms you agree to by downloading and using Abiat.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Abiat (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

These Terms apply to the free desktop application distributed at abiat.io and the associated website. There are no paid tiers, subscriptions, or user accounts on Abiat's servers — the App connects directly to Google's APIs on your behalf.

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made.

2. License

Grant

Abiat grants you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to download and use the App on any number of devices you personally own or control, for personal or commercial purposes.

Restrictions

You may not:

  • Redistribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the App or any part of it.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except where required by applicable law.
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices in the App.
  • Use the App to develop a product that is directly competitive with Abiat.
  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable law or these Terms.

Open source components

The App is built on open source software including Tauri and Rust. Those components are governed by their respective licenses, which are not superseded by these Terms.

3. Your Data & Privacy

Data stays on your device

Abiat is designed with local-first principles. Your email and calendar data is fetched directly from Google's servers and cached in a local SQLite database on your device. Abiat never routes your email content through its own servers.

Authentication

Abiat uses Google OAuth 2.0 exclusively. Your access tokens are stored in your operating system's native credential store (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or the system equivalent on Linux). Abiat does not store your Google password, and tokens are never transmitted to Abiat's servers.

Anonymous analytics

Both the desktop app and this website collect anonymous usage events via Aptabase (EU region) to help us improve the product. App events include things like app_started, compose_opened, and search_performed. Website events include page views and download clicks. No email addresses, message content, search queries, or personally identifiable information are ever sent. The desktop app does not currently provide an in-app opt-out. No sale of data

We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

Abiat connects to Google's APIs (Gmail API, Google Calendar API, Google OAuth 2.0) to provide its core functionality. Your use of those services is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policies:

Abiat is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of any third-party service. If Google changes or discontinues its APIs, features of the App may be reduced or unavailable without notice.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

  • Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other people.
  • Send spam, phishing messages, or other unsolicited bulk communications.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any computer system or network.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or other harmful code.

We reserve the right to stop distributing the App to anyone who violates these Terms or applicable law.

6. Intellectual Property

The App, its design, name, logo, and all associated materials are owned by Abiat and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you beyond the limited license in Section 2.

"Gmail" and "Google Calendar" are trademarks of Google LLC. Their use in these Terms and in the App is for identification purposes only and does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by Google.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. ABIAT MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

Because the App runs locally and does not route data through Abiat's servers, the reliability of your email and calendar data depends on Google's API availability and your own device and network conditions.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL ABIAT OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF ABIAT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

ABIAT'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. BECAUSE THE APP IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, THIS LIMIT IS ZERO (0) WHERE PERMITTED BY LAW.

Some jurisdictions, including those in the European Economic Area, do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability. In those jurisdictions, the above limitations apply only to the fullest extent permitted by law.

9. Updates & Changes to the App

We may release new versions of the App at any time. Updates are optional; you can continue using a previous version, though we may not be able to support older versions indefinitely. We reserve the right to discontinue the App at any time without notice.

10. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Uninstalling removes the local cache; your Google account data remains in your Google account and is unaffected.

We may terminate or suspend distribution of the App without prior notice if you breach these Terms. Sections 6, 7, 8, and 11 shall survive any termination.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Swedish courts.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also benefit from any mandatory protective provisions of the laws of your country of residence that cannot be derogated from by contract.
